1. The family of Sandra Bland, the 28 year old Black woman who was found hanged in her Texas jail cell on July 13th 2015, reached a $1.9million settlement in a wrongful death civil suit. The settlement also includes a change in prison policies of the Waller County jail where Bland was located, however, this part of the settlement is still in contention. Read more here.
2. The officer who shot and killed Korryn Gains, a 23 year old Black woman, and who shot her five-year old son in August will not be facing charges. Read more here.
3. Terence Crutcher, a 40 year old Black man whose car was stalled on a Tulsa, OK highway was gunned down by a police officer on September 19th. His family has raised over $120,000 for his four children. To provide support to the Crutcher family, click here.
4. Keith Lamont Scott, a disabled black man has died at the hospital after being shot by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg, N.C., police officer Tuesday afternoon on Old Concord Road in University City, a subdivision of Charlotte. To learn more read here.
5. Video was released of cops pepper spraying a 15 year old black young woman in Maryland after she was hit by a car while riding a bike on Sunday. To read more click here.
6. BWB’s own Kaitlyn Newman and Naimah Johnson were in Virginia this week, training campus administrators, public safety officials and Title IX coordinators on “Building Cultural Humility and Structural Analysis Using an Intersectional and Trauma-Informed Framework”
