10 Things to Know This Week



1. On Monday September 12th, BWB hosted a Black Healing Space at the Museum of Women’s Resistance where members were able to engage in a communal and individual healing activities.

2. On Tuesday, September 13th, BWB launched a petition: President Obama - Recognize Black Women Survivors of Sexual Assault. We need 100,000 signatures! Sign here and read the full open letter on our mama black blog here!

3. On Tuesday September 13th, the family of Korryn Gains filed a wrongful death suit against Baltimore County for the shooting murder of the 23 year old on August 1st 2016. Read more about the lawsuit here.

4. On Wednesday September 14th, BWB officially launched our new blog “mama black: stories, news and analysis by Black Women’s Blueprint” Visit mamablack.org to check it out!

5. From Wednesday September 14th - Friday September 16th BWB staff was in Arizona leading Anti-Oppression training for 50 state Sexual Assault Prevention Coalitions.

6. On Wednesday September 14th, BWB staff was also in D.C attending a planning meeting for the International Decade for People of African Descent with the U.S. Human Rights Network.

7. U.S. Sailor Dwanya Hickerson accused of stabbing 25 year-old Dee Whigham, a trans woman and a nurse, 119 times appeared in Jackson County Mississippi court Monday asking for the case to be dismissed. The presiding judge denied that request and ordered evidence be presented to a grand jury at a later date. Read more about the case here.

10. BWB welcomed new social work interns into our BWB family this week and we look forward to expanding our Sisters in Counseling program with them on board!
